My small amount of progress: Health over length

This is a topic I've never really talked about, the reason being that I've always struggled to follow this concept. I started a healthy hair journey because I wanted long hair, health was a secondary thought.

Recently I've been thinking about this topic more and more and I've decided to take on the concept whole heartily. I haven't really publicised this but about 3 months ago I had two inches of hair cut off. After a few weeks of constant heat, ripping out my hair when detangling but also adoring my length I've decided to start following the 'health over length' mindset.

Ladies with health ends

But why is it important to have the mentality of health over length? Without health you simply can't have length, or at the very least your hair cannot grow. I've also noticed first hand that although my hair is creeping towards waist length my ends look straggly and horrible. Looking around girls hair I admire most are girls with healthy thick ends, even when their hair isn't my desired length.

So on Thursday I got another inch cut off, to get rid of my horrible ends and to start a fresh and hopefully meaning I can retain another inch or so by the end of the year.

This is the first time I've really tried to live by the health over length concept, and I'm hoping to see great results.

Do you always follow health over length?
Do you have any words of encouragement?

  1. There is nothing more heartbreaking then working for months nurturing and caring for your hair only to have to willingly cut---not trim---several inches. Ugh. I know personally how bad it sucks. The good news is that your is going to keep growing. And now your ends will be just as healthy as your roots. Plus, there is nothing worst than meeting your hair length goals only to hate your ends!

  2. It's so easy to get attached to the length, especially if longer hair is what you're striving for. I always talk myself out of cutting more than what I probably should have, but the next time I cut my hair I'll remember this as it's easy to forget. Great post hun x

  3. Hi there!
Occasionally I get scissor happy. Trimmed/cut ends to me look so much better than uneven thin ends. I'm planning on cutting about four inches from my hair and I am a little sad about it but I feel it's necessary. Once the hair is cut, it is a fresh start! Great post.

  4. IM WHACKING ALL OF MY HAIR OFF THIS WEEKEND. ENOUGH OF IT IS DAMAGED AND I FEEL THE NEED TO START THIS JOURNEY ALL OVER AGAIN. I ALWAYS OPT FOR HEALTH OVER LENGTH. LENGTH CAN ALWAYS BE REGROWN, BUT HEALTH CAN'T BE REPAIRED.

  5. Your hair will be beautiful and healthy if you combine hair care products with right nutrition. Most nutrients for hair are received from blood, not from outside. That is why your food should be reach in vitamins. In addition, vitamins could be taken separately. I am taking special dietary supplement for hair - Hair Gain Formula by Military Grade. It contains natural compounds which enhance hair growth. My hair becomes more shiny and thick. I really like how this product works for my hair!
