Hair Crush

Dionne Broomfield is a singer, songwriter and TV presenter. She has released some pretty good songs and is also the god daughter of the late Amy Winehouse. She has even sang with her at times.

Get the look
From what I can tell she has healthy relaxed hair and often wears weaves or extensions to make her hair appear longer. She adds caramel highlights to her dark hair to give it some definition and to change her style from time to time. Her curls are mostly likely created using  1-1/2 inch curling wands.

What do you think of her hair styles?
Is she one of your hair style crushes?

Sleek Rose Gold

I've always been pretty scared to try blushes, mostly because I had no idea  which colours would suit me. I'd heard some great things about sleek make up and previously owned an eyeshadow pallette made by them, which both my mum and I  loved.

The above was a surprise photo taken by my boyfriend, hence I had to crop out my shocked and horrified expression. The photo was taken in daylight on a really sunny day, it had been applied approximately 3 hours previously.

As you can see from the photos and from the name "rose gold" the colour is a pinky gold colour which is really great for highlighting! It sort of looks like a natural splash of colour on the cheeks.

Hair Damage

Hair damage is a huge issue for everyone, it makes hair dull, break and generally unhealthy!

But what it is? How can we recognise it and what REALLY causes it?

What causes damage

Damage can be caused by many processes including chemical damage (dyes, relalxers, perms), the sun,  every day wear and tear and heat.

Mixed race hair  and curly hair can be particularly susceptible to damage, every bend in your hair is a weak point.

What is damage?

We can identify damage as the hair splitting or breaking, loosing natural curl pattern, hair feeling dry or bubble hair.  Hair that cannot hold a curl or straighten is often damaged.
A healthy hair strand will appear smooth, it will have no change in thickness throughout the strand and will have a natural shine.

To Weave or not to Weave

Weave
So as you can see here, I did used to wear weaves during my unintentional transition from relaxed to natural. I'm considering getting a hair weave again for a few months to stop me using heat and to stop me playing with my hair. Although, I really can't decide if I should on not.

Pros
  • Protects natural hair via protective styling
  • Stops heat usage of natural hair
  • Can directly measure growth, because the weave is normally so close to the scalp when the hair grows it moves away from the scalp and therefore you can see exactly how much growth there is
  • Don't have to spend hours and hours detangling, styling etc.
